What better way to celebrate the turn of the sun than cruising on the Mediterranean aboard Tealie?
Turn up the volume and let your mind wander.
The eve of the 23rd of June has many names and is celebrated with various traditions around the world, a feast full of rituals and ancestral traditions.
We will head out before sunset and sail along the coast to witness the lit candles and bonfires on the beach, the fireworks exploding and the people keeping up the tradition of bathing or at least getting their face, eyes, feet and hands wet at midnight, in the hope of waking up more beautiful the next day.
Unfortunately we can´t offer you a bonfire or fireworks but we can light a candle and drop the anchor so you can have a swim.
Once you´re settled and comfortable we will serve you a bubbly welcome drink, snacks and refreshments. Underway we will deck the table with a typical Norwegian prawn spread with homemade salad and potato salad, hopefully with homegrown vegetables from our finca (farm). After food we will serve dessert, snacks and more refreshments.
The eve starts at sunset, the day before St. John´s day which is one of the very few feast days marking a saint's birth, rather than their death. The Gospel of Luke states that John was born six months before Jesus; therefore, the feast of John the Baptist was fixed on 24 June, six months before Christmas.
In Málaga a tradition is to burn dolls on the bonfire known as "júas", in Algeciras and La Línea de la Concepción the locals carry and install the traditional rag dolls called "juanillos" which burn at midnight with secret wishes hidden inside.
We have seen dolphins, turtles and moonfish on numerous trips. They are unpredictable, but don't loose faith, keep a close lookout and hopefully they will show up to greet you.
On our way back, if time permits, we will take a ten minute detour down the canal to the inner parts of Sotogrande marina, past the luxurious and colourful apartments at the frontline of the canal. Visit SOTOGRANDE CANAL for photos and videos.

WHAT TO BRING
Swimsuit. Towel. Warm clothes. Equipment for activities (fishing, scuba and more). See tips below.
Should you get restless sitting on deck doing nothing you are welcome to take the helm or help with the sails. If you would like to do some fishing or go scuba diving, or have any other activity in mind, feel free to bring your equipment along. If you want to go swimming we have snorkelig gear and a SUP board at your disposal.
For photos and videos on some activities to do while aboard, head to ACTIVITIES.
You will be served food, snacks and refreshments. If you have any allergies or have some special dietary wishes or needs, please let us know.
Although hot on land, the sea air can get humid and chilly, especially around sunset. For your own comfort, we recommend bringing a warm jumper or jacket.
Please bring proper shoes with white, rubber soles. The deck is slippery when wet and we wish to avoid any accidents. If the weather is warm enough, barefoot is a good option.
We have life vests for those not feeling too comfortable aboard, also for small kids and medium sized pets.
If you wish to let your family and friends know where you are sailing, they can follow you by searching for TEALIE on VesselFinder or by clicking on MarineTraffic.
Motion sickness is the worst, especially wobbling on a sailboat with no immediate escape. However, if you tend to get motion sick, don't worry, there are some precautions to take before and during the trip.
BEFORE THE TRIP
Check with your doctor or pharmasist which medicines or patches to be recommended. The adhesive patch is put behind your ear a few hours before boarding. We have pills and wrist bracelets if needed.
Buy a pack of lozenges, preferably something with ginger.
Do not eat a big meal before boarding.
Lay of alcohol, caffeine and drink lots of water.
Bring a distraction - like music with headphones.
DURING THE TRIP
If you brought music, listen to it as it might add some distraction.
Find a better spot. Many find relief by taking the helm.
Lie down if you can, keep your head still, shut your eyes or follow the horizon. Whatever is best for you.
We will provide something salty, like chips or crackers, green apples, i.e. Granny Smith, anything with ginger, i.e. lozenges.
Drink ginger ale or ginger tea, Coca-Cola, the real stuff.
If nothing of the above helps, we will give you a bucket and head back to Sotogrande.
TEALIE is registered for 10 people so we can welcome 8 guests aboard.
Your pet, furry or not, is also welcome to join us.
We accept cash, PayPal in EUR and NOK, or bank transfers to Spain and Norway. We accept Spanish Bizum but unfortunately not Vipps. If you need an invoice, no problem.
