SUMMER SOLSTICE - SATURDAY, 21 JUNE 2025

Summer solstice is when the sun is at its northernmost point in the sky giving us the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and the shortest in the Southern Hemisphere.
Did you know that the word solstice comes from the Latin words sol (“sun”) and sistere (“to stand still”)?
Turn up the volume and let your mind wander.
On the June solstice the sun is directly overhead the Tropic of Cancer and does not change for a brief period of time. This year it happens at exactly 04:42. After the solstice the sun begins moving south again giving us less seconds per day until we reach the winter solstice in December having already lost six hours of daylight.

Summer Solstice

We welcome you aboard to celebrate the season of summer and almost 15 hours of daylight with some bubblies and food. Once you´re settled and comfortable we will serve you a bubbly welcome drink, snacks and refreshments. Underway we will deck the table with a typical Norwegian prawn spread with homemade salad and potato salad, hopefully with homegrown vegetables from our finca (farm). After food we will serve dessert, snacks and more refreshments.

WHAT TO BRING
Swimsuit. Towel. Warm clothes. Equipment for activities (fishing, scuba and more). See tips below.

Should you get restless sitting on deck doing nothing you are welcome to take the helm or help with the sails. If you would like to do some fishing or go scuba diving, or have any other activity in mind, feel free to bring your equipment along. If you want to go swimming we have snorkelig gear and a SUP board at your disposal.

For photos and videos on some activities to do while aboard, head to ACTIVITIES.

You will be served food, snacks and refreshments. If you have any allergies or have some special dietary wishes or needs, please let us know.
Although hot on land, the sea air can get humid and chilly, especially around sunset. For your own comfort, we recommend bringing a warm jumper or jacket.
Please bring proper shoes with white, rubber soles. The deck is slippery when wet and we wish to avoid any accidents. If the weather is warm enough, barefoot is a good option.
We have life vests for those not feeling too comfortable aboard, also for small kids and medium sized pets.
If you wish to let your family and friends know where you are sailing, they can follow you by searching for TEALIE on VesselFinder or by clicking on MarineTraffic.

Motion sickness is the worst, especially wobbling on a sailboat with no immediate escape. However, if you tend to get motion sick, don't worry, there are some precautions to take before and during the trip.

BEFORE THE TRIP

Check with your doctor or pharmasist which medicines or patches to be recommended. The adhesive patch is put behind your ear a few hours before boarding. We have pills and wrist bracelets if needed.
Buy a pack of lozenges, preferably something with ginger.
Do not eat a big meal before boarding.
Lay of alcohol, caffeine and drink lots of water.
Bring a distraction - like music with headphones.

DURING THE TRIP

If you brought music, listen to it as it might add some distraction.
Find a better spot. Many find relief by taking the helm.
Lie down if you can, keep your head still, shut your eyes or follow the horizon. Whatever is best for you.
We will provide something salty, like chips or crackers, green apples, i.e. Granny Smith, anything with ginger, i.e. lozenges.
Drink ginger ale or ginger tea, Coca-Cola, the real stuff.

If nothing of the above helps, we will give you a bucket and head back to Sotogrande.
